IMPORTER
Your role in the value chain
You are an importer when you are established in the EU and import packaging or packaged products from a non-EU country in the EU.
This applies for ex. when you purchase packaging or packaged products in UK, Switzerland or China and import them into the EU.
Further roles(s)
If you also sell these packaging/packaged products in your country to a distributor or to private or professional end users, you also have a producer‘s role.
If you have packaging or packaged products manufactured under your name or trademark in a third country and import them into the EU, you also assume a manufacturer’s role.
Check the applicable obligations for both producer and manufacturer.
Your key obligations
- Verification of compliance:
- Ensure that imported packaging meets all PPWR requirements before placing on the EU market
- No import of non-compliant packaging
- Logistics & storage compliance: Compliance must be maintained to all stages of transport and distribution storage
- Traceability and documentation:
- Keep a copy of the EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC) and its corresponding technical documentation available for each imported packaging (5/10 years after placing on the market)
- Labelling
- Verify and label imported packaging
